Baby's Arrival

As my friends baby is on its way, I decided to get creative making a few little gifts. An owl made from a recycled dress and a little matching illustration!

Sass Brown lecture

A fantastic lecture on eco fashion delivered by Sass Brown, the director of the overseas progamme at the fashion institute of technology, alongside being a professor.

Alyor calculated by 2050 we need to reduce are emissions by 20-50%, however it is thought emissions will actually increase by 60%. Often people ask, why fashion? How will fashion change this?

Textiles employ a 6th of the worlds population.

This introduction lead onto a number of points Sass Covered.

- Ecological fabrication and slow design.
- Recycle, reuse, redesign.
- Community and fair trade
- New Models
- Designer Initiatives

Sass finished with an interesting point, peoples mindset needs to be shifted. Cheap fast fashion is not actually cheap. The REAL cost needs to be explained and we all need to move back to the investment concept adopted by our mothers and Grandmothers. The idea of saving money and buying expensive long lasting pieces is something that our Grandparents would have done, that generation is not far gone and we need to continue with that way of thinking, but the damage of cheap, fast fashion may have had a longer lasting effect.
