Cologne

Cologne, or Koln as the Germans say is Dusseldorf's rival city. I took a day trip here whilst in Germany. Nice city, shops, German culture, yet another cathedral and plenty of museums!

Dusseldorf in 1 hour

If you don't have much time to spend visiting the sights of Dusseldorf, there is a handy 1 hour tour available in the guides. All the places and sights are reachable on food and you can do it any time.

Follow Konigsalle and visit Stilwerk, a center for design fanatics, the Ko moat along side the boulavard of magnification design shops before meeting slim Matilda on the corner, one of Germany's oldest meeting points. From here you get to see Germany's first high rise office block, Wilhelm-Marx-House and gallerie Kaufhof, the first department store. If you continue along the walk you will see the most beautiful baroque church, St. Andreas. Once you meet markplatz where the town hall sits you will see a monument of the elector Jan Wellem high on his horse. Take a quick peak at the Rhine before heading to Carlstadt, an exquisite quarter of museums and galleries including the film museum, het-jens-museum of ceramics and for a more profound insight into Dusseldorf's history, the Stadt museum. Walking back to the Rhine and heading North, you will reach the Rheinturm, once of Europe's largest TV towers before hitting the media harbour where you will find architecture from Frank O'Gehry.

Berlin

After an packed weekend in Berlin I now have a new found respect for the city and would now list it above London and Milan as one of my favourite city breaks! Firstly we visited the Bauhaus Archives, which was probably the most interesting museums I have been too. We had hoped to go to the original Bauhaus building in Dessau however the reviews weren't too good and it ws too far away for a weekend visit.

Next was a trip in the fastest escalators in Europe at 'Panoramapunkt' to get a glimps of Berlin by air. At Mitte, you can see lots of beautiful buildings especially as this is home to museum island, a group of 5 renowned museums. We visited the Berliner Dom, had a trip along the river and through the markets, where I picked myself up two rather nice photographs for only 15 euros.

Back at Portzdamer Platz we went to the sony centre for food before visiting the bluemax theater to watch the world famous 'Bluemen'.

Back on track

I have neglected my blog rather a lot this Summer, having 3 jobs, desperately trying to save money, catching up with friends and everything on the go back at home....my uni work seemed to be a distant memory. Now I have finished work I can get back on track, start research, drawing and blogging!

Stubble upon

I have just recently been introduced to StumbleUpon. It's a discovery engine that finds the best of the web, recommended to each unique user. It allows its users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos that are personalised to their tastes and interests. Be careful....it's slightly addictive, but really useful for finding out about stuff that's going on around you in the world that you maybe interested in.

Germany

I'm off to Germany for a month before returning back to uni. Hopefully I can get chance to catch up on drawing, do some research and chill out before my 3rd year of uni begins.

I'll be staying in Dusseldorf in my boyfriends flat right near the river Rhine. Perfect opportunity to check out some sights. Whilst here I plan to visit berlin and check out the Bauhaus, take a trip to the rival town of Cologne and go for a touristy weekend in Brugge. Perfect opportunity to become inspired!
